No. 1 tip for deterring criminals? Lock your doors

A few days before the Thanksgiving holiday, Sheriff Bill Lutze gave grateful residents and business owners the gift of renewed peace of mind when it comes to protecting their property from theft.
At a meeting of the Lone Pine Chamber of Commerce on Nov. 25, Lutze summarized the types of theft cases being seen in Southern Inyo and offered advice on how to avoid falling victim to thieves.
Lutze’s “open discussion forum,” as he called it, was held in response to concerns among community members regarding recent break-ins and thefts from the Alabama Hills to Darwin over the past several months.
