Barbara Jill Grove
Barbara Jill Grove, 73, of Big Pine, passed away on Nov. 2, 2013 after a courageous battle with liver disease. She was born to the late Jean Durston and Irving Grove, on June 16, 1940, in Martinez. Jill graduated from Los Medanos College and received a B.A. in Science in 1983. She lived in the Walnut Creek and Concord areas before retiring to beautiful Big Pine in 2003.
Jill had a robust career, from working for the NASA Space Program and programming punch cards for IBM in the 1960s, to her true calling as a registered nurse in the 1980s. Her nursing career began at Los Medanos Hospital, and she retired as the nursing supervisor at Northern Inyo Hopsital â€“ in the days when nurses still wore white hats.
Jill is survived by herethree children, Howard Harrow, Linda Bettencourt and Laura Childers (Jerad); and seven grandchildren, Morgan Harrow, William Tejada, Anthony Tejada, Cody Kennedy, Dawson Kennedy, Chloe Childers and Aspen Childers. Jill is also survived by her three siblings, Tom Grove, Bob Grove (Paige) and Marilyn Booth; and many nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 9 at Brune Mortuary, 325 W. Elm St. in Bishop. A gathering of friends will follow immediately afterward.
