Residents wanting to go on record with comments in response to the Los Angeles Department of Water and Powerâ€™s proposed Southern Owens Valley Solar Ranch now have until Nov. 2 to do so.
The public comment period for LADWPâ€™s Draft Environment Impact Report has been extended from 45 days to 60 total and, in addition to two recent meetings held in the Owens Valley, may also include a hearing in Los Angeles to gather the input of stakeholders there â€“ specifically, members of the Japanese American community with close ties to Manzanar National Historic Site.
Manzanar, and the projectâ€™s close proximity to the site, were mentioned frequently at Wednesdayâ€™s public meeting in Bishop â€“ the gist of which, from LADWP at least, was that the utility is under pressure from the state to convert to greener energy and has found what it believes to be the most beneficial site for a solar ranch with the least amount of impacts.
