Work continues on Digital 395, which was supposed to be completed last month but was delayed by permitting and funding issues.
A new completion date for the project, which involves the installation of fiber-optic cable to allow access to faster Internet speeds, has been set for October.
Most of the work along the U.S. 395 corridor from Carson City to Barstow has been finished, meanwhile. Crews are currently working to install fiber-optic cable in the Crowley Lake and Casa Diablo areas.
According to Nate Greenberg, vice-chair of the Eastern Sierra Connect Regional Broadband Consortium, a group dedicated to promoting online business growth once Digital 395 is complete, the project’s contractor, Praxis, Inc. recently received additional funding from the California Public Utilities Commission and its remaining permits from the U.S. Forest Service, and should have work on the project completed by next month.
