Jim arrived to homestead land in Fish lake Valley in 1950, coming from California Hot Springs. He served on the original board of directors of the White Mountain Cooperative which later became known as Valley Electric Association. In his early years in Fish Lake Valley, he worked for the Esmeralda County Road Department and was proud to be the one to build the original north cutoff from Fish Lake Valley to Grefco at U.S. 6 with the road grader. It was later paved by the State to the road it is now. He farmed alfalfa hay the old fashioned way and was very proud to be a homesteader and an American farmer.
