Matthew Stephen Mooney
Matthew Stephen Mooney, 47, of Paradise, Bishop, passed away on Aug. 20, 2013 on the Wheeler Crest in the Eastern Sierra.
Matt was born in Bronxsville, N.Y. to Donald F. and Florence T. Mooney on Aug. 19, 1966. He was educated at Xavier High School and Fordham University, NYC. He worked as a broker on Wall Street for 23 years but his most rewarding work by far was as an active member of Inyo County SAR from 2001 to 2005 where he volunteered on numerous missions.
He married Martina M. Grady on June 8 2006, they lived together in Brooklyn, N.Y. until relocating to Paradise in May 2013 to pursue their love of the mountains.
Matt is survived by his beloved wife, Martina; his mother, Florence; and six siblings, Kay Mooney, Mark Mooney, Donald Mooney, Joanne Mooney, Jacqueline Oâ€™Brien and Paul Mooney; and nieces and nephews.
The family of Matt Mooney wishes to extend their sincere thanks to Inyo Sheriffâ€™s Department, Inyo County Search and Rescue, Mono County SAR, China Lake Mountain Rescue and the numerous private citizens who searched tirelessly for their friend.
Donations can be made in Mattâ€™s memory to Mono or Inyo County SAR.
Memorial services will be held at 5 p.m., Friday, Aug. 30, 2013 at Todd Tatum Ranch on Bircham Lane, Bishop, CA.
