Paul Henry Kenney

Paul Henry Kenney, age 66, a resident of Bishop, passed away peacefully on Aug. 6, 2013 surrounded by his loving family and spouse of 44 years, Karen Kenney.
Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 17 at the Stoutenburg residence, 2523 Sunrise Dr. in Bishop.
Paul was born Jan. 11, 1947 in Santa Monica, the son of Ralph Joseph Kenney and Beverly Anne Kenney. He was raised, along with his brother Richard Kenney in Venice. After graduating from Venice High School in 1964, Paul enlisted in the Navy. He served our country during the Vietnam War from Jan. 27, 1965 to Jan. 23, 1968 as a Gunner’s Mate Technician on the aircraft carrier U.S.S. Kearsarge.
During his tour, when home on leave, Paul met the love of his life, Karen Louise Woods. They went on their first date Dec. 11, 1966. The courtship continued until they married on Aug. 23, 1969. After his honorable discharge from the Navy, Paul joined the California Highway Patrol on Aug. 12, 1968. As a patrol officer, he began his duties in East Los Angeles, then Malibu, later transferring to Mammoth Lakes and finally settled in Bishop where he finished his career, retiring from the CHP on Nov. 12, 2001.
On May 26, 1971, Paul and Karen had their first child, Shannon Colleen Kenney. On Nov. 9, 1973, their second child, Christopher Joseph Kenney arrived.
Paul was so much more than a Gunner’s Mate and a Patrol Officer. He was a loving husband and father. He was a little league and soccer coach, a waterskiing instructor, a surfer and a classic car enthusiast with an eye for perfection, among many other things.
He will be remembered for his honor, his calm and patient demeanor and for his humor. He was a very special part of many people’s lives and a great friend to all that knew him.
Paul is survived by his wife, Karen Kenney; children, Shannon McMurry and Christopher Kenney; five grandchildren, Ethan Aukee, Christopher Powell, Ashley McMurry, Walker McMurry and Mayze Kenney; father, Ralph Kenney; brother and sister-in-law, Richard and Cathie Kenney; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Beverly Kenney.
