The Lone Pine Golden Eagles Track and Field team finished its season on a high note as the athletes reached the medal podium three times at the Desert Mountain League Finals, held at Antelope Valley High School the first week in May.
Competing against nine teams, Lone Pine’s Alec Garcia took first place in the 400-meter sprint, qualifying for the CIF championship prelims.
The Eagles women’s 400-meter relay team, Danielle Escoto, Angela Carranza, Nora Bergesen and Genesse Lucia, took second. The men’s 100-meter relay team, Douglas Moore, Shane Munis, Kelby Hykes and Garcia, reached the podium with a third-place finish.
Munis also tied for fourth place in the high jump.
“Alec’s qualifying win was a huge accomplishment,” said coach Dale Newell. “It was a fun and successful season for the entire Eagles team. I’m looking forward to great things next year.”
