Tioga Pass cleared to eastern park entrance

April 22, 2013

A crew from Caltrans clears the road on Tioga Pass just in time to allow brave and hearty anglers access to high-country fishing spots during this weekend’s fishing opener. Caltrans has re-opened the pass (State Route 120 West/Tioga Pass Road) to the east Yosemite Park Entrance Gate. The highway will remain closed beyond the park. “Users can access S.R. 120 for recreational activities from the junction of U.S. 395 at Lee Vining up to the park entrance closure gate,” a press release from Caltrans states. This partial opening is dependent on favorable weather. If the area is impacted by inclement weather, Caltrans may have to re-close the highway. The National Park Service, meanwhile, is expected to begin plowing the road on the other side of the gate on April 29, with a projected opening for the entire road of May 11.
