The Bishop Broncos fell to the Kern Valley Broncs, 0-8, Friday afternoon.
Both teams are now 2-2, behind the undefeated Frazier Mountain Falcons and the Rosamond Roadrunners at 3-1. Bishop faces Rosamond at home this afternoon.
“We had three hours of batting practice Saturday,” said coach Tim Reid. “After a tough week, that helped get us back on track, helped us regain our confidence. We’ll be ready for Rosamond.”
“We’re in a slump,” he said. “We need to start hitting the ball and take the pressure off the pitcher.”
The first two innings of Friday’s game in Lake Isabella constituted a pitching battle between Bishop’s Cy Scott and Kern Valley’s Corey Mixon.
KV’s Dalton Gallis opened the flood gates in the third. Gallis’ triple and Bishop errors resulted in a 0-4 lead for Kern Valley by the time the dust settled.
The Bronco defense tightened up, holding KV runless until the bottom of the sixth inning.
Kern Valley walked in a run; Alex Cordell hit a 2-RBI double, then scored on a Cody Little single with help from Bronco errors.
The 0-8 lead was too much for Bishop to overcome.
