The Big Pine Lady Warriors played a tough double header against the Immanuel Christian Crusaders Friday afternoon.
The Warriors were shut out, 0-13, in game one and went down swinging at 2-20 in game two.
Big Pine took the field with only eight players. Each time the injured player, Lorena Rico, came up in the batting order, the Warriors recorded an out giving them a serious up hill battle through the afternoon.
The Crusaders opened up in the top of the first with a pair of triples and a walk, scoring 3 quick runs. Unfazed, Big Pine caught the next two batters out at first and pitcher Kaity Barlow recorded a strike out to get out of the inning with minimal damage.
Warriors Izzy Richards and Sheyanne Wilder both singled in the bottom of the inning but were left stranded.
Two in-the-park home runs for Immanuel Christian in the second inning brought in 5 runs for a total of 10 runs for the Crusaders and a 0-13 lead.
Big Pine held the Crusaders runless through the next three innings but were unable to cross home plate.
Immanuel Christian picked up where they left off in game two, starting with a 5-run first inning.
With 2 outs, Big Pine loaded up the bases. The Warrior on third was tagged out at home plate, retiring the side.
The Crusaders added a run in the second, then poured on 6 more in the third to take a 0-12 lead.
Big Pine’s Richards walked in the bottom of the third; Alyssia Carrington singled and Barlow loaded the bases. Richards stole her way across home plate and Barlow followed on a passed ball to put the Warriors on the board at 2-12.
The Crusaders came back with 5 runs in the fourth, 3 in the fifth, taking the 2-20 win.
