Ralph A. Reeve, Sr.

Ralph A. Reeve, Sr. was born in what is now known as Coos Bay, Ore. on Nov. 20, 1917 to George and Wilda Reeve.
His family moved to Azusa when he was a small child. His uncle, Alex Reeve was a rancher in the Owen’s Valley. Ralph spent many of the years he grew up in the Owen’s Valley.
In 1937, Ralph married Louella Iris Reeve. Together they had five children, Judith Lee, Janet Kay, Cheryl Ann, Carol Lynn and Ralph Alex Reeve. Two of his daughters passed in infancy, Janet Kay and Carol Lynn.
Ralph served in the U.S. Army in 1944 and 1945. Over the years, Ralph worked in the meat packing industry. He later moved back to the Owen’s Valley after his uncle Alex Reeve passed in 1959. He worked as foreman on this uncle’s cattle ranch for four years. After the ranch was sold in 1962, Ralph bought a ranch lease in Round Valley. He started a wholesale meat business that he ran for six years.
In 1966, his wife Louella passed away. In the following years, Ralph founded Ralph Reeve Pump Service which he ran until 1990. Ralph retired to Topaz Ranch Estates with his longtime companion Joyce Forkush. In 2009, he moved back to Bishop because of failing health to reside with his son Ralph, Jr. He later moved into the Bishop Care Center, where he passed away on March 5, 2013.
Ralph was a great man and was loved by many. He will be greatly missed, but his legacy of love, truth, honesty and doing right by others will live on as an example in our hearts and our lives.
Ralph is survived by daughter Judith Lindig (Alton); daughter Cheryl Craun; son Ralph (Linda); grandchildren Kip Lindig, Kelly Foss, Kirk and Michelle Lindig, Kristi and Ian Baird, Ami Lyman-Reeve, Jody DeSousa-Reeve and Clinton and Anita Reeve; great-grandchildren Zachery, Samuel and Gabriel Lindig, Jaedrianne, Tieran and Braden Foss, Ruby and Quinn Baird, Alex Reeve, Craig and Shayla Layman, Austen and Dakota DeSousa, and Catarino Reeve.
Ralph was expecting his first great-great-grandson this Spring. Also, Ralph is survived by his longtime companion of 42 years, Joyce Forkush and children, Susan and Steve Forkush.
The family will be planning a memorial service to be held in a few weeks.
