Mildred Jane Cessna Freeman



Mildred Jane Cessna Freeman was born to Samuel H. Cessna and Mignon R. Phillips Cessna on Feb. 24, 1925 in Detroit, Mich. She passed away at her home in Big Pine on Nov. 24, 2012. 

Millie moved to Los Angeles when she was two with her brother Walter and sister Mina Mae. Millie graduated from Huntington Park High in 1943. She worked as a riveter at Farmer Bros. Coffee war production facilities, riveting wings on airplanes. 

After the war, she married Eugene William Freeman, Jr. in Santa Ana in 1946. Eugene worked for the City of Los Angeles DWP and built houses on his days off until his retirement in 1975. 

They moved to Kihei Maui where they built homes on Maui and on the island of Hawaii. After Eugene’s death in 1982, Millie moved to Big Pine to be closer to her children. 

Millie was preceded in death by her brother, Walter Cessna; sister, Mina Mae Paddison; husband, Eugene William Freeman, Jr.; and eldest son, Daniel Wayne Freeman. 

She is survived by her sons, Phillip David Freeman and wife Suzanne, Christopher Reid Freeman and wife Cynthia, Timothy Mark Freeman and wife Katherine and James Ace Freeman and wife Paula; 10 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. 

Graveside service was held Nov. 30 at the West Line Street Cemetery with Pastor Chris Costello officiating.
