The Bishop Broncos soccer squads started pre-league play Monday, Nov. 19 at Littlerock, north of Palmdale, with mixed results.
The Lady Broncos JV trounced the Lobos, 7-0; the varsity won, 1-0.
The Broncos had a rough start with the JV squad dropping the game 1-3 and the varsity doing the same 0-4.
Varsity coach John McGurke lost six starters from a strong 2011-12 team and is still in the process of reconfiguring his 2012-13 squad.
âWhile not happy about the final result,â McGurke said, âI was pleased with our play at times and some individual performances. The Lobos are a very good team and gave us a solid gauge on what we need to work on to be ready for league play in January.â
Alberto Olvera, Bishopâs central defender for the past three years, is moving into a central midfielder role along side sophomore Elijah Alexander.
âWe are currently looking at a few different players to fill the central defender role and shore up the back line alongside senior left back Angel Aranzubia,â McGurke said.
The Broncos head to the Palmdale Classic this Friday, opening with Knight High School.
