California native Ernest David Vargas III, also known as “Ernestito,” “Dave” and “Ernie,” age  34, passed away after being struck by a hit-and-run vehicle, Thursday, Nov. 8, 2012 in Sparks, Nev.

Ernestito was born April 7, 1978 in Quito, Ecuador to Zoila and Ernest Vargas.

He spent his high-school/early-adult years in Bishop.

He is survived by his little sister, Mery; his brother-in-law, Richard; his nephew, Mateo; his niece, Soraya; and his parents.

Ernestito was part of the IBEW union brotherhood and took pride in his work as an electrician. He was also an avid art lover, sports fan and music enthusiast. Ernie had a strong wit, outgoing personality, and was passionate about everything he talked about and did. He was known for his big heart and spreading laughter to whomever crossed his path. Ernie always had a tremendous amount of empathy and compassion towards others and he enjoyed and adored spending time with his niece and nephew.  We will all miss him terribly, but we will always have him in our hearts.

A public viewing and rosary will be held at Ross, Burke, & Knobel Mortuary in Reno, Nevada, 2155 Kietzke Lane, from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2012.  Funeral mass and burial will be held, with time and day pending. Please visit for more information.
