Playoff hopes still alive for Lone Pine

October 26, 2012

The Lone Pine Lady Golden Eagles volleyball squad upped its game, giving Desert Christian a run for its money in Thursday’s road game.
The Eagles fell in four, 18-25, 25-22, 15-25, 21-25, against the Knights, who are tied at 8-1 for Desert Mountain League champion with Boron. “We played much better against Desert Christian than we did last Saturday,” said coach Mel Joseph. “Our intensity allowed us to give a better effort. We had our chances but made too many errors in our offensive execution.”
The Eagles’ final two games are critical to gain a CIF playoff spot. Lone Pine is currently battling Mammoth for a fourth playoff spot. The Huskies meet the Knights this weekend, with their final game against Vasquez. Mammoth and Vasquez have met four times in pre-season and league play. Vasquez has logged two wins, a tie and a loss to Mammoth.
Lone Pine will have to avenge an earlier loss to the Boron Bobcats Monday, the Eagles’ Senior Night. The Eagles meet Mammoth in their final game Wednesday, hoping for a repeat of their 3-1 win earlier this season.
