Dorothy Louise Buff



Born in Lone Pine, Dorothy Louise Buff lived her life in the Owens Valley until she lost her battle with cancer at her home in Independence.

She attended Owens Valley Unifed School. After she finished high school she attended Marinello School of Beauty in Long Beach for her license in cosmetology. After years of being a cosmetologist, she decided to return to school, going to University of California, Davis. She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree. 

She loved working and fighting for Native American rights and practicing Native American spirituality. She is a past chairperson of the Fort Independence Indian Reservation in Independence. 

Dorthy leaves behind her nephew, Ronald “Dink” Knox; nieces, Diana Knox and Paulette Buff; great-nieces, Tazenupa Benson, Cassie Knox, Cecilia and Julisa Buff-Ramon; great-nephews, John and Shane Knox; great-great-nephew, Timothy St. John, Donald Buff and his family, Marian Zucco and family, Harriet Harrison and family; and many more relatives who loved her dearly.

A celebration of life will be held in September. Details will be announced at a later date.
