Rowland Fansler

Rowland Fansler, age 82, a lifelong resident of Big Pine, was born in his Gramma Rossi’s home in Big Pine on Jan. 26, 1930, and passed away early Wednesday morning May 16, 2012 at home surrounded by his loving family.
Rowland enjoyed a long, full life in Big Pine. He graduated from Big Pine High School in 1948. His love was sports and he excelled in tennis –   singles and doubles. After graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served four years stationed in Germany.
After completion of his military service, he returned to Big Pine where he became a charter member of the American Legion and also met his future wife, Joy. Together they raised a large and loving family, participated in numerous youth sports activities and spent time with dear friends. His kindness, compassion and wisdom will be missed by all.
Surviving family includes wife, Joy Fansler; step-brother, Bill Screen and his wife, Jean; daughter, Adena Fansler; son, John Fansler and his wife Carol; daughter, Charlotte Lang; daughter, Cheryl Mac and her husband, Bo; son, Dennis Fansler and his wife, Patty. The list of survivors also includes numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and would not be complete without the mention of his good pal, Jim. Grandkids include Jimmy Kelley, Jacob Fansler, Joey Fansler, Byron Turner, Andy Brolsma, Johnny Fansler, Melissa Hubartt and Ty Fansler. Great-grandkids include Brenda Jean, Ryan Kelley, Kaden and Keifer Fansler, Silas and Allison Fansler, Nicholas Fansler, Olivia Hubartt, Raven and Makayla Turner.
Rowland was preceded in death by his beloved father, J.B. Fansler; mother, Estelle Rossi; brothers, Buddy Fansler, Warren Fansler and Jack Fansler.
Graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, May 25 at the Big Pine Cemetery. Rev. Dr. Karen Moore of the Big Pine Community United Methodist Church will officiate.
Donations in Rowlands’ memory may be made to Hospice of the Owens Valley, or a charity of one’s choice.
