Last fall, the Hi-Lo League football champion Lone Pine Eagles were punted out of the playoffs by a huge, brutal Excelsior Education Center team.
It took a few months, but the Golden Eagles struck back with a 4-2 win over the Excelsior Eagles in the Wild Card bracket of the CIF baseball playoffs.
“We were solid defensively,” said coach Chris Riesen. “It was one of our better games. We put everything together and Michael (Cappello) threw well.”
Lone Pine travels to Pasadena today for a match-up with the Poly Pasadena Panthers, the 2011 Division 6 champions.
The Golden Eagles established dominance early with 2 runs in the first inning. Excelsior narrowed the lead with a run in the third and fourth innings.
Lone Pine scored again in the fourth and sixth and shut Excelsior down for the final three innings.
