Bishop’s Lady Broncos beat the Nuview Bridge Knights, 9-8, in the final inning of the Division 6 CIF playoffs Wild Card round Tuesday.
The Broncos travel to the coast this afternoon to take on the Carpenteria Warriors, Frontier League champions.
The Knights took an early 4-1 lead in the first inning. At the end of four innings, the Knights were ahead 2-8, but the Broncos kicked their game into high gear.
“We had a big 6-hit inning,” said coach Stacy Van Nest, “then the Knights couldn’t stop our momentum.”
The 6 hits translated into 5 runs, narrowing Nuview’s lead to 8-7. That’s where the momentum took over.
The Broncos shut down the Knights in the final three innings, tied the game 8-8 in the sixth and scored the winning run in the seventh.
“I’m proud of these girls for this difficult win on the road. They did an outstanding job, never giving up and playing with heart,” said Van Nest.
