Mary Lou Martin
Mary Lou Martin, age 84, peacefully passed away on April 25, 2012. Born in San Diego on Sept. 11, 1927, she was the daughter of Donnie Delbert Sammons and Margaret Effie Dorr.
She married Rufus Harper Williams in 1946 in Yuma, Ariz. and had two sons, Richard Howard Williams and James Winfield Williams, and a daughter, Leilani May Williams.
In 1954 she married George Martin Jr. who predeceased her in 2001.
She was a graduate of Bishop Union High School and a resident of Chalfant Valley since 1949. She was a member of Daughters of the American Revolution, an avid genealogist, and a local historian. She also won many awards at the Tri-County Fair for her crocheted creations, jams and pickles. Mary Lou and her husband were active members of the community, supporting both the Inyo County Sheriff’s Posse and local volunteer fire departments. They donated much to the Laws Museum including the General Store, the decorative cash register, and many other antique items.
Survivors include: Rick and Kathryn Williams of Benton, James and Kit Williams of San Luis Obispo, Leilani Bly of Deer Park, Wash., brother and sister-in-law, Dean and Sharon Wolbach of Willits; stepsons, Terry and Lonnie Martin; seven grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Per her wishes there will be no service. She will be laid to rest with George Martin Jr., her beloved husband of more than 45 years, at the East Line Street Cemetery in Bishop.
