Naomi Wisdom

Born on June 1, 1927 in Blanchard, Okla., Naomi moved to California with her family at the age of three. Naomi was raised in Corona and spent all of her early years in the Southern California area. It was during this time that she met her husband, Boyd, and where both of their daughters were born.
The family moved to Bishop in 1957 when Boyd began working for the telephone company. Boyd and Naomi had been married 48 years when he passed away in 1995. Naomi became an advocate for patients with Alzheimer’s disease by volunteering for nine years as an ombudsman at the skilled nursing facility in Big Pine. She was also active in the senior program serving as chairman of the Advisory Board of the Inyo-Mono Area Agency on Aging for six years and served in the California Senior Legislature in Sacramento for three years in the Assembly and three years as a Senator. For 16 years Naomi enjoyed volunteering at the Bishop Senior Center helping to pack meals for delivery.
Naomi was an active member of Calvary Baptist Church and also enjoyed attending Bishop Creek Community Church. She was a strong woman of faith, having accepted Jesus as her Savior in 1947.
Naomi peacefully entered the Lord’s presence on March 27 after a short battle with Multiple Myeloma.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and eight siblings.
She is survived by daughters, Linda and Robyn of Bishop; one brother, Bob Cleveland, and his wife, Barbara, of Palo Alto; sister-in-law, Wanda Cleveland of Corona; and many nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life for Naomi will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 4 at Calvary Baptist Church, 1100 W. Line St.
“Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of His saints,” (Psalm 116:15).
