Broncos split doubleheader

March 26, 2012

When is a split doubleheader a good thing? When it’s the Bishop Broncos baseball team up against the Burroughs Burros in Ridgecrest.
Bishop beat Burroughs Saturday 3-1, then lost the second game 0-1 in what is usually a humbling test for the Broncos in pre-league.
“This is the best we’ve played all season,” said coach Tim Reid.
Curran Simpson saved the win with a diving out at second base.
“Keith Tatum (Bronco’s catcher) had an awesome game one,” said Reid, “not only on his calls to Scott but he threw two outs on stolen base attempts.”
Tatum and pitcher Cy Scott were in total sync with Tatum baffling the Burros’ hitters. “He made a good hitting team look bad,” Reid said.
The Burros’ clean-up batter suffered four consecutive strikeouts at the hands of Tatum/Scott.
Tanner Kruse, coming off shoulder issues, got his first outing on the mound for the Broncos in game two.
Kruse went five innings with three strikeouts. Schain Thomson closed out the final inning with no runs.
