Thomas (Tom) Joseph Spoonhunter

Thomas (Tom) Joseph Spoonhunter, age 67, passed away Feb. 9, 2012 at his home in Bishop, Calif. due to illness. Thomas was a member of the Northern Arapaho Tribe.
He was born June 24, 1945 in Ft. Washakie, Wyo, on the Windriver Reservation to Isaac and Angela Spoonhunter Andreas. The family moved to Bishop in 1952 where Tom grew up and graduated from Bishop Union High School.
He was preceded in death by his father, Isaac Spoonhunter; mother, Angela Spoonhunter Andreas; brother, Alan Ray Spoonhunter; and sister, Linda Andrea Stone Benitez.
Surviving members of his family include daughters, Tammara Spoonhunter (and granddaughter, Cierra) and Taya (Spoonhunter) Sepsey (and son-in-law, Jack, grandson, Darren, and granddaughters, Jordan and Hannah); stepfather, Robert Andreas; brothers, Garrett (and sister-in-law, Anita), Ronald (and sister-in-law, Valerie) and Lyle Spoonhunter; sister, Dorothy Robison; and numerous nieces and nephews. He is also survived by extended family brothers and sisters in Wyoming: Harvey, Marlin, Arlita, Tilley, Theron and Terry Spoonhunter; and of course, his many friends that he met during his journey.
The family would like to express a heartfelt “thank you” to Thomas’ roommate and friend, Julie Thorp, who cared for him during his illness.
Thomas enjoyed life socializing with his family and friends. He will surely be missed by all.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 19 at Rusty’s Bar. Wake services will be held from 8 p.m. to midnight on Monday, Feb. 20 at Tammy’s residence at 307 Tu Su Ln., Bishop. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 21 at Brune Mortuary, 325 Elm St., Bishop. A luncheon will follow at the Barlow Gymnasium, 390 N. Barlow Ln., Bishop.
