The Bishop Lady Broncos soccer team scored a decisive 3-0 win over the Desert Scorpions Thursday afternoon and are now headed into the CIF playoffs.
Bishop is tied with Frazier Mountain for the High Desert League championship at 8-1-1, but holds a better overall record at 10-7-1.
Playoff brackets will be released this weekend.
The game Thursday was icing on the cake for the Broncos.
In the first minutes of the match, Cassie McKinley ripped down the sidelines, outdistancing the Scorpion defenders, for the first goal of the game.
Less than four minutes later, Alicia Campos smashed the ball past the Scorpion keeper to put Bishop ahead 2-0.
The teams shared possession through the first half, but the speed of the Broncos’ forwards and the ability of the defenders to turn back the Scorpions’ attacks were key.
In the second half, it was all Bishop. McKinley sent home the Broncos’ third goal 15 minutes into the half.
The Broncos are a young team and a melding of different game strategies with new head coach Cathy McKinley.
