Margaret M. Karaffa
Margaret M. Karaffa (81), resident of Bishop, Calif. for 36 years, born in Detroit, Mich. on June 27, 1930, passed away on Feb. 1, 2012 at Bishop Care Center.
Margaret worked many jobs as she followed her husband across America. She was a phone operator in Michigan, a front-office employee for churches in Detroit, Sarasota, Fla., and in Bishop. She also worked for J.C. Penney’s for many years in the catalogue department.
In her early years, Margaret sang professionally and auditioned to sing at the Miss Florida Beauty Pageant. She got the job.
Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, Frances “Frank” and Dagmar Dalton; and three siblings, brothers Bill and James Dalton and sister Marie. Margaret was also met at heaven’s gate by her husband, Cyril “Bud” J. Karaffa and son, Paul Grigg.
She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Elizabeth “Beth” Grigg, and two grandsons, Christopher Lucas Grigg and Zackary A. Grigg, of Sellersville, Pa.
The Rosary will be recited by Father Gracey on Wednesday, Feb. 8 at 7 p.m. in Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church in Bishop. A Memorial Mass will be held on Thursday, Feb. 9 at 10 a.m., followed by interment at the East Line Street Cemetery in Bishop and a luncheon at the Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church Hall.
