George Erbeck passed away Friday, Jan. 13, 2012 in Bishop. He was born Feb. 14, 1926 in New Jersey.
George was the beloved husband of Margaret Erbeck. He is also survived by his brother, Willard, and sister-in-law, Betty Erbeck; daughter, Cindy and her husband, George Mathis. He is also survived by his son, Jeff Erbeck; stepchildren, Lisa and her husband Guy Jaegers of Bishop, Mary and husband Chris Jensen of Sacramento and Colin MacGregor of Bishop. George was the devoted grandfather of 13 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren and also many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Robert; brothers, Irving and Edward; and his first wife, Barbara.
George and Margaret retired to Bishop in 1990 and enjoyed camping, fishing and hiking in the Eastern Sierra. He also enjoyed learning to square dance and country line dance and was a great dancer.
George received his high school diploma early from San Fernando High and enlisted in the Navy at 17. He proudly served in World War II and was recalled during the Korean War.
A Mass to celebrate his life was held Saturday, Jan. 21 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Bishop. The celebration continued with a luncheon in the parish hall immediately following the service.
In lieu of flowers, donations in his honor may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or the Inyo Mono Association for the Handicapped in Bishop.
