C. Brent Wallace

C. Brent Wallace was welcomed into the arms of his Savior on Jan. 17, 2012 at the age of 65 due to complications related to his 8 year battle with cancer. Brent was born in Atascadero and grew up in the Central Valley, graduating from Franklin High School in Stockton in 1964. After serving for four years in the Air Force during the Vietnam War, Brent attended Cal State University at Sacramento graduating with a degree in Recreation Administration. Later he went on to get a Master’s Degree in Public Administration from Cal State Long Beach.
Brent married the love of his life Marilyn (Poelstra) in 1968. Brent began his career in public service in 1973 with the South East Park District in Tempe, Ariz. then returned to California to work for the City of Santa Fe Springs as a recreation supervisor. Brent then took a position with Santa Fe Springs as the Director of Personnel. In 1986, Brent became the county administrative officer of Inyo County and moved the family to Bishop. He served in Inyo for 10 years then took the CAO position in Siskiyou County in Northern California serving that community for two years. Brent then served as the CAO of Tuolumne County where he remained until his retirement in 2006. At that time, he became the executive director of the County Administrators Association and also worked as a consultant for Vanir Construction.
Over his 35 years of public service, he received many awards recognizing his excellence in leadership. In 2010, Brent and Marilyn really retired and moved from Sonora to Hayden, Idaho to be near family. Brent enjoyed working with young people, from leading church youth groups to coaching youth soccer and volunteering his time as a basketball coach for Colombia Jr. College. Brent was an avid fisherman and there was no body of water that he was unwilling to tackle. He was active in church leadership, enjoyed reading, travel, music, movies and spending time with his family. He was in the process of restoring a 1957 Chevy pickup, was an enthusiastic sports fan and absolutely loved basketball. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Brent is survived by his wife, Marilyn of Hayden, Idaho; daughter, Stephanie (John) Hotine of Hayden; daughter, Christine Wallace of San Luis Obipso; son, David Wallace of Hayden; mother, Joyce Wallace of Portland, Ore.; sister, Sandra (Ron) Kersh of Portland; brother, Bob Wallace of Stockton; brother, Bruce Wallace of Stockton; mother and father-in-law, Ruth and John Poelstra of Stockton; grandchildren, Adam, Avonlea, Kyler, John, Chris, Amanda and Pearl; and numerous extended family members.
