De La Riva
Robert R. De La Riva, of Pahrump, Nev., passed away Jan. 8, 2012. He was 77.
Robert was a longtime resident of Bishop. He moved to Bishop with his family in 1965 and worked at Union Carbide Mine for many years. He and his family lived in company housing at Sheelite and Red Housing (Rovana) before moving into town. He was then a truck driver for Mayflower, Bekins and Allied Van Lines. He later worked for Caltrans District 9, as an equipment operator (Conway Summit and Death Valley) before leaving Bishop. He was instrumental in establishing the Eastern Sierra Bowman archery club at Mill Pond. He was also an avid bowler, enjoyed horseshoes and made many friends in the Owens Valley.
Robert is survived by his children; daughter, Mrs. Rose Ann Deighan of Wooster, Ohio; son, Robert “Bobby” De La Riva of Bishop; daughter, Ms. Mary Ann De La Riva of Clovis, Calif.; daughter, Ms. Teresa O’Brien of Sparks, Nev.; daughter, Ms. Victoria De La Riva of Bishop; daughter, Mrs. Vivian Piper of Bishop; step-daughter, Mrs. Mary Gouin of Cumberland, R.I.
Robert had numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren and other family.
Robert is also survived by his wife of 27 years, Mrs. Amy De La Riva of Pahrump.
