Roy Wayne Brown
Roy Brown of Bakersfield passed away in Bakersfield Memorial Hospital from pneumonia after surgery on a broken leg.
Roy was born Dec. 22, 1929 to Sanford Jonah and Hazel Brown in Texola, Okla. The family moved to California when Roy was 7 years old and settled in Delano where he went to school and graduated from Delano High School in 1947.
Roy served 8 and a half years in the California National Guard. He retired from Safeway Stores after 30 years of service in various locations; Delano, Indio, Palm Springs, Bakersfield and Bishop. After retirement he was self-employed in the fast food business, a mobile home park and a delicatessen in Inyo County. He and his family lived in Bishop, California for 30 years before returning to Bakersfield in 2001.
Roy loved to fish, deer hunt, play golf, and travel in his motor home.
He leaves behind in sorrow his wife of 61 years, Freddie; a son, Fred Brown and wife, Jaynie of Bakersfield; a daughter, Vonda Brown of Willits; a son, Jon Brown of Las Vegas; and a daughter-in-law, Merry Brown of Bishop. The oldest son, Nathan Brown, preceded him in death. He is also survived by much loved grandchildren, Clinton Brown, Cody Brown, Courtney Boyd, Alexis Toy and Tucker Brown.
Services will be held in the Chapel at Greenlawn Southwest Mortuary at 2 p.m. Friday Jan. 13, with a viewing from 4-7 p.m. Thursday. A celebration of Roy’s life will be held directly after services at 3803 Wyndham Ave. in Bakersfield.
