Don H. Reid
Don was born March 21, 1925 in Mammoth, Utah to Thomas and June Reid. He passed away on Dec. 31, 2011. He was 86. In high school he was a star basketball player and loved all sports. By the time he was 17, World War II had begun. Don joined the U.S. Marine Corp and was deployed with the 5th Marine Division. He fought on Iwo Jima for the entire 33 day battle and was part of the Japan occupation force. Although discharged after the war, Don was a Marine for life. He believed in God, Country, freedom and fair treatment for all.
Don came home from the war and married his soul mate, Adean. They were blessed with 61 years of marriage. They have two children, Will and Marilyn; four grandchildren Shannon Graves, Shaun, Jacob and Matthew and two great grandchildren. Don would spend hours playing with his grandchildren and had a nickname for each, which they still carry. Don and Adean moved to Bishop in 1956 where he was employed by Union Carbide Corp. Don started work as a contract miner and retired 30 years later as mine superintendent.
His death was preceded by brothers, Jim and Ted.
He is survived by his wife, Adean; children, Will and Marilyn; brother and wife, Rex and Vella Reid; sister, Bonnie Bauer; and sister and husband, Nancy and Lee Burraston.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at Brune Mortuary Chapel. VFW Post 8988 will officiate. Graveside service will be at East Line Street Cemetery. Dave McLaughlin of the LDS Church will officiate with an Honor Guard from the U.S. Marine Corp.
