Dorothy Vandervalk

Our family is deeply saddened by the passing of our mom, Dorothy Helene (Wyman) Vandervalk, on Dec. 22, 2011 at the age of 87.
Dorothy was cared for during the past six months by the exceptional staff at the Bishop Care Center. Prior to that, she spent her life caring for others. She had two wonderful husbands, Don Wyman and Nick Vandervalk, both deceased.
She is survived by her children, Bonnie Harvey, Judy Wyman and Bill Wyman; her sister, Margaret Jezowski; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was fortunate to have so many longtime friends in Bishop and Big Pine.
She loved her Owens Valley, where she lived for the past 52 years; first in Rovana, then in Bishop. She would wake each morning, marvel at Mt. Tom, and consider how lucky she was to live in its presence.
We will miss her greatly; we know that all of you who knew her will miss her too.
Graveside services were held Dec. 27, 2011 at the East Line Street Cemetery in Bishop. Peace to her at last with love.
In lieu of flowers, a donation to ICARE in Bishop or a favorite charity of one’s choice would be greatly appreciated.
