A death on the Bishop Paiute Reservation on Tuesday night may be the result of foul play and a local resident has been taken into custody in connection to the case.
Details are scant and the investigation is still under way, but law enforcement sources said Wednesday afternoon that officials are hoping that releasing what information is available now may help with the investigation.
According to the Inyo County Sheriffâs Department, Daniel Barlow, 45, of Bishop was pronounced dead at Northern Inyo Hospital on Tuesday evening.
Harlan Dewey, 40, of Bishop, was contacted later that evening and placed under arrest for suspicion of homicide.
Carma Roper, Inyo County sheriffâs public information officer, would only say that evidence found at the crime scene led investigators to suspect âpotential foul playâ in Barlowâs death.
The Inyo County Sheriffâs Department had received a call on Tuesday at approximately 9 p.m. of an unresponsive male subject on Winuba Lane in Bishop, according to a press release. Symons Ambulance was dispatched and transported Barlow to NIH where he was pronounced dead. An autopsy will be conducted to determine the exact cause of death.
Dewey was contacted at 1 a.m. on Wednesday by sheriffâs deputies and is being held on $1 million bail at Inyo County Jail.
Roper said the investigation is in a very âfluidâ stage and more details will be released when made available.
The Sheriffâs Department is asking anyone with information pertaining to the investigation to call (760) 878-0383.
