Rick Schlichting

Rick Schlichting, 75, of Bishop passed away Dec. 8, 2011 of a massive stroke. At his request no service will be held, rather he wanted his friends to gather at a later date to celebrate his life.
Not only did Rick teach high school for 40 years, but he coached basketball, football, track and his championship Cypress High School Cheerleading squads that he took to international competitions. Rick finished his teaching career at Bishop Union High School.
The consummate teacher, he cared deeply about his students and preparing them for happy, healthy lives. His passion was helping young people reach their full potential and living life to the fullest.
Rick, born in Alameda, had a rocky beginning. By the age of six he was selling newspapers on the docks for food, then put into foster care. At 17 he joined the Marines and was off to the Korean War after graduating high school. He used his GI Bill at CSULB to gain his teaching credential. He taught high school in the Anaheim Union HSD until retiring and moving to Bishop, where he joined his wife on the staff, teaching part time, directing the USB/ASB and serving as athletic trainer.
He served his country well and has helped make his part of the world a better place through his teaching, community service and many friendships.
He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Patricia.
