Sage to Summit announces kinder, gentler Race Series

Winter Series starts Dec.10. Photo submitted

Only a month to go before Sage to Summit begins its annual Winter Race Series at Millpond.
The first of the five-race series starts Saturday, Dec. 10. According to race organizers, the routes will return to courses from the first two years of the series. Apparently, the more challenging courses used in 2010 brought mixed reviews.
This year, Sage to Summit is teaming up with the Bishop High School Cross Country Team and coach Jeff Perry. The Winter Race series will be a fundraiser for the team.
The courses will be on the rolling dirt roads between the park and Tungsten Hills and will progress from 5K (3.1 miles) for the first two months to 10K (6.2 miles) and finish off with a 15K (9.3 miles) in April.
The monthly races start at 9 a.m. The 5K run/walks are Dec. 10 and Jan. 14. The 10Ks are Feb. 25 and March 17 and the 15K takes off April 21.
Water, carb/electrolyte drink mix, OJ, Black Sheep coffee and bagels from Great Basin will be available at the start/finish area. There will be no aid station for the 5Ks; one aid station will be set up at halfway mark of the 10 and 15K runs.
Registration is $10; participants can register on race morning or at Sage to Summit.
