The Bishop High Junior girls clobbered the Seniors 20-6 in the annual Powder Puff football game, kicking off Homecoming week Monday, Oct. 24 at John Schwab field.
Junior QB Katelyn Lent put her squad on the scoreboard, behind a key block by Madi Taylor, in the first quarter with a 2-yard run.
As the clock ticked down the first half, linebacker Aubrie Nolan intercepted a Seniorsâ pass. Nolan headed down field for a 35-yard TD, putting the Juniors ahead 14-0.
The Seniors quarterback executed a pass play in the third to narrow the lead 14-6.
The Juniors answered decisively. Pushed back to their own 5 on penalties, Shiloh Smith, on a reverse set up by Lent and Dana Grevenkamp, took off like a shot for a 95-yard TD run, giving the Juniors a decisive 20-6 win. Smithâs run is said to be a high school powder puff record.
âThe Juniorsâ defense only gave up 6 points,â said defensive coach James Jackson. âThe girls kept pressure on the Seniorsâ offense and didnât allow many yards.â
According to offensive coach Jim Reynolds, the Juniors struggled on their first drive, but came back strong for the win.
âBoth teams played well,â said Reynolds, âbut the Juniors had a few plays they were able to run successfully and score on.â Most notably was the successful reverse ran by Smith.
âThe girls all played awesome and we canât wait âtil next year,â said Reynolds and Jackson.
