More than 163 works of art were displayed by local residents at the recent Altrusa Art Show and Sale.
Held Oct. 1-2 to coincide with the Owens Valley Cruisers Falls Color Show and Choo-Choo Swap, the 13th annual fundraiser and celebration of local artistic talent resulted in Christine Eyer winning Best of Show.
According to Altrusa spokesperson Ruth DeCray, the visiting public had been asked to vote for “Best of Show” from among the almost 200 works on display.
More than 300 residents and visitors weighed in, with Eyer’s watercolor, “Returning,” receiving the most votes.
The second most votes went to Ron Luce, owner of Bishop Art Supply, for his watercolor, “Half Dome, Yosemite.”
Not far behind in total votes for a third-place win was Joy Neiwald for her acrylic, “Wild Iris.”
According to DeCray, Luce will be the featured artist for the 2012 Art Show and Eyer will be the featured artist for the 2013 Art Show.
This year’s featured artist, 2010 Best of Show winner Laura Talbot, had 25 paintings on display.
She was the overwhelming favorite for Best of Show last year for her endearing pastel painting of an Australian Shepherd dog titled “I’ll Be There.”
Luce will have the same opportunity in 2012 to display a wide selection of his works.
All funds raised by Altrusa from the Arts Show and Sale will be used for literacy and community service projects. For more information about Altrusa or membership, visit www.altrusaes.org.
