Broncos JV takes down Ravens, 34-8

The Bishop Broncos JV football squad came home from Cal City with a 34-8 win to start High Desert League play at 1-0.
The JV team’s overall record is 5-1.
“Our defense was outstanding,” said coach Arnie Palu. The D accounted for two of the team’s TDs: Ryan Lent returned one interception for a touchdown and went on to pick-off two more Ravens passes. Noah Stevens also returned a pick for a 95-yard score.
David Tanksley pulled down the fifth interception.
Other scoring drives: Carl Olsen, Clyde McCoy and Thomas Montoya.

BUHS tennis team scores
12-6 win over Mammoth

Bishop High’s tennis team enjoyed a win and great weather Tuesday as they beat Mammoth 12-6.
The doubles pairs won all nine of their matches. Sophomores Jenelle Rafferty and Kelli Pfeiler won 6-4, 6-2, 6-2. Juniors Tara Gardner and Hope McIndoo won 6-4, 6-0, 6-0 also marking the first time this season they have finished a match without a tie-beaker. Katie Tanksley and Karen Hinek won 6-2, 6-2, 6-0.
“This is a great step for the doubles,” said coach Patty Cummings. “They have been getting better every day and every match.”
The singles side added 3 points. Madi Taylor battled back from a 1-4 game score to win 7-5. “The win took a lot of determination on Madi’s part,” said Cummings. “Her opponent only needed 8 points to win but Madi just kept winning 1 point at a time and came back, winning 24 points to take the set.”
Ashley Lee won one set 6-3. Ricki Willey won a hard-fought set 7-6 and tie-break 7-1 but fell 0-6 and 4-6.
This Saturday’s match with Desert has been rescheduled to 2 p.m.
