Lynn O. Newcomb
Lynn O. Newcomb, 91 years old, resident of Inyo County for one and a half years, born in Hollywood on May 21, 1920, passed away on Sept. 5, 2011 at the Bishop Care Center.
Lynn grew up in Hollywood and lived his entire life in S. California where he helped his dad, Lynn, Sr. build Mt. Waterman Ski Lifts and Newcomb’s Ranch in the Angeles National Forest. That was one of his passions. He also loved being at the beach and sailing and boating with his many friends. Twice he got to sail the TransPac to Hawaii. His other love was flying. During WWII he was a flight instructor in the Air Force and flew P-38’s and P-51’s. For many years, he was a member of the Los Angeles Chapter of Quiet Birdmen, a by-invitation group of fellow pilots.
He was married in 1942 to Virignia Marie Cole whom he met while attending USC. She was deceased in Oct. 1990. He later married Lillian Tanigawa who recently died from cancer.
He will be dearly missed by his family and many friends whose lives he touched along the way. He was an inspiration to many young men and women throughout the years, who thought of him as a mentor or second father.
He is survived by daughter, Cynthia Newcomb Quinn (Michael); granddaughter, Dierdre Shelton; great-grandson, Joshua; and great-granddaughter, Jessica, all of Crowley Lake; son, Robyn Newcomb of Ketchum, Idaho; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Memorial service will be at 1 p.m. on Sept. 18, at the La Canada-Flintridge Country Club, La Canada.
