Search for resident comes to grim end

August 25, 2011

Local authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding a Lone Pine woman’s death on Tuesday, not long after failing to return from a morning walk.
According to the Sheriff’s Department, Jenny Salado, 63, was reported missing Tuesday afternoon after failing to meet up with her companion after a “routine walk” near the Narrow Gauge Road area northeast of Lone Pine.
Members of Inyo County Search and Rescue reportedly located Salado’s body at about 9:30 p.m. Tuesday evening near the Narrow Gauge Road area where she had reportedly been bottle hunting.
The cause of death is currently under investigation.
According to Sheriff’s Public Information Officer Carma Roper, Salado drove herself and her companion to the Narrow Gage Road area for her walk at about 9 a.m.
Deputy Coroner Jeff Mullenhour said Salado and her companion were bottle hunting and split up with a designated place and time to meet back up.
When Salado did not return at the designated time the Sheriff’s Department was notified.
Roper said she was reported missing by a relative from Washington at about 2:30 p.m.
The Sheriff’s Department initiated a CodeRED emergency notification by telephone to 625 Lone Pine residents at 7:30 p.m. According to Roper, residents were provided with Salado’s name and description and were asked to keep a look-out for her and given details on how to contact the Sheriff’s Department if she was spotted.
Mullenhour said that he does not suspect foul play in Salado’s death, but stressed that the case is still under investigation and an exact cause of death has yet to be determined.
No further details of the case are available as Roper did not return phone calls seeking clarification as of press time Wednesday.
