JJ Davis softball tourney a success

August 17, 2011

The Second Annual Jerry “JJ” Davis Memorial One-Pitch Softball Tournament played out last weekend with the Dream Catchers taking the championship in the final game Sunday afternoon.
The Dream Catchers, sponsored by Chris Holt of Hi Country Market of Big Pine, beat the Jokers 6-5 after taking out the Jacksons, the BS’ers and Team Meat. The Jokers faced down the Redtails, Swing Men and One Hit at a Time to secure a spot in the final round.
Twelve teams in all competed in the two-day tournament. Proceeds from the event go to Davis’ three children.
The tournament brought in sponsorships and donations from Bill Eddy Archery, Value Sports, the Frank family, Paiute Palace Casino, Whitedove and Susan, Kmart, Mountain Apparel, Manor True Value Hardware and Leslie Davis.
“Thank you to all the volunteers who helped run the tournament,” said Organizer Willie Pasquel, “and all the teams who participated. Special thanks to Tim Reid, Byron Gustie, Steve Vasquez, Gumbo, the McCays, Freidlines, Davises, Hagans and the Wests as well as Whitedove and Susan and everyone else who helped.”
