Donald Hudson Terry
Don passed away in the early evening of July 24, 2011 in Bakersfield. He was born January 1, 1926 in Lone Pine.
Don was a descendant of Big Pine pioneers George and Nettie Hall who arrived in Big Pine in the 1880’s. He graduated high school in Lone Pine and enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1943 serving until 1946. He served in the amphibious forces of the U.S. Navy and saw action in the Pacific land invasion of Iwo Jima and Okinawa in 1945.
Don was the Standard Oil Distributor and Chevron station owner in Lone Pine for many years until retiring as an independent insurance agent.
He was a Charter Member (1946) of Turner Barnes VFW Post No. 8036 and served as the commander in 1958. He was also a member of American Legion Post No. 646 and Inyo Lodge No. 221 F. and A.M.
Don was preceded in death by his father and mother, Earl and Lois H. Terry; his brother, Robert; and his son, Michael.
Don leaves behind his wife of 58 years, Margaret; daughter, Susan Terry Ortega (husband Justin); grandchildren, Kelly Checo and Logan Wilcox; brother-in-law, Joe Ruiz (Joyce); sister-in-law, Charlotte Olson; niece, Jody Patton; and nephews, Edward Ruiz and Henry Olson.
Per Don’s request, no funeral services will be held and burial will be private.
