Lilian K. Davis
After a long battle with cancer, Lillian K. Davis passed away on June 27, 2011 with her two daughters by her side.
Lillian was born Nov. 19, 1922 to George and Elisabeth Kaufmann in Detroit, Mich.She graduated from Denby High School in Detroit in 1942. Lillian married her best friend LeRoy Davis on May 1, 1944. They were married 40 years.
Lillian worked as a sales clerk for Sears and J.C. Penny’s from 1958-1974. She then became a Personnel Manager for J.J. Newberry’s, retiring in 1985.
In retirement, she served as a member of the Foster Grandparents Program at West Valley Children’s Hospital in Fresno, Calif. for seven years. From there, she went on to work as a teacher’s aid for the first grade class at Lehigh Elementary School of Lehigh Acres, Fla.
Lillian has been living in Bishop for the last four years. She loved camping and fishing at Grant Lake and spending time with her family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, LeRoy Davis; her mother, Elisabeth Kaufmann; father, George Kaufmann; and sister, Edith Burniel.
Lillian is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Marti Davis of Burlington, N.C.; son and daughter-in-law, Dennis and Karen Davis of Bishop; daughter and son-in-law, Carol and Jerry Timmerman of Bishop; daughter and son-in-law, Linda and John Hernandez of Fresno; brother and sister-in-law, Norman and Linda Kaufmann of Hesperia, Calif.; plus 13 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren and numerous nephews and nieces.
The family would like to thank the staff of Hospice, Pioneer and the Bishop Care Center for their loving care and support, with a special thanks to Tami McDermith and Joyce Watt.
Funeral Services will be held at East Line Street Cemetery at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 30. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking contributions be made in Lillian’s name to Hospice of the Owens Valley.
