1924-2011

Thomas F. Rogers, age 87, resident of Big Pine and Bishop for 40 years, born in Newark, Del. on April 11, 1924, passed away on June 29, 2011 at the Bishop Care Center. As a real estate broker in Bishop, Tom initiated the first multiple listing service in the area. He served in World War II in the U.S. Army Air Corps as a B-29 tail gunner. After the War, Tom was instrumental in the development of the guidance system for America’s first operational guided missile, the surface-to-surface “Corporal.” He was present at the initial launching at the Pueblo Ordnance Depot., New Mexico, as a representative of Gilfillan Brothers, Inc. who were responsible for the development of the guidance system.
Tom is survived by his wife, Arline A. Rogers of Big Pine; and longtime special friends, the Redman family of Lancaster and California City.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Tom’s memory to the Inyo County Animal Shelter or any ASPCA.
At Tom’s request, there will not be any services.
