Carl Howard Davis was born in Los Angeles on Jan. 11, 1924 to Carl Norton Davis and Gladys Irene Horney. He passed away June 1, 2011 at Northern Inyo Hospital. He was 87. Carl was raised in Los Angeles County and graduated from Montebello High School in 1941 and enlisted in the U.S. Coast Guard in 1942. He served in the South Pacific until World War II ended and then reenlisted for a second hitch from 1946 to 1949.
In his early years he married Corinne Laverne Wilkes. They had two sons, Michael and Casey Davis. He worked for many years as a fireman in Montebello and was also an Arson Investigator. Later he left the fire department and became the Building Inspector for the city of San Clemente. Carl retired in 1983 and moved to Mammoth Lakes where he met and married his second wife, Peggy Perry/Black on Jan. 20, 1983. They moved to Chalfant Valley and Carl built them an old time log house and life was great.
Carl was a Chalfant fireman also Fire Commissioner and fire department Santa Claus for several years. He loved animals especially mules and horses – he donated his time to Mule Days every year – he loved all his dogs and cats. He was an excellent builder and architect – always whistling a happy tune whatever he was doing. He was also a gifted writer and voracious reader. He worked for the U.S. Forest Service for ten summers until he finally retired again.
Carl’s parents and oldest son, Michael Davis, preceded him in death.
He leaves his loving wife of 28 years, Peggy Davis; son, Casey Davis and wife Karen, and  a step-son, Alex, of Cosby Texas; two stepchildren, Michael “Mike” Black, wife, Kathy and Patricia “Patty” Black all of Chalfant; and two stepgrandchildren, David Black of Monterey and Michele Black of Lake Tahoe.
In his last months the Internet became his whole life – he traveled the world and had many friends and family that he wrote to. “He was a devoted, loving husband and father and he will be greatly missed forever more...”
