Drunken ‘car surfing’ ends in injury, arrest

June 6, 2011

Chris D. Meyer

A 23-year old Orange resident is behind bars this week after allegedly drinking and driving and running over a friend Sunday night.
According to the California Highway Patrol, Chris D. Meyer was driving a 1994 Chevy Blazer northbound on Movie Road in Lone Pine at about 12 a.m. Sunday with Greg W. Dischner, 23, of Orange in the passenger seat. A third person, Justin M. Parillo, 28, of Orange, was allegedly “car surfing on the hood.”
According to the CHP, Parillo apparently fell off the hood and was “partially run over by the vehicle, sustaining major injuries.”
Parillo suffered a compound fracture to his right ankle/heal.
Meyer drove the injured Parillo to Southern Inyo Hospital for medical attention. Staff at SIH reportedly contacted the Inyo County Sheriff’s Department, requesting a deputy “to assist with non-compliant injured party.”
A sheriff’s deputy responded, determining that the incident originated from a trafic collision, possibly involving alcohol, and requested the CHP to respond for investigation.
“Chris D. Meyer was found to be under the influence and arrested for felony DUI,” a press release from the CHP states. Meyers is being charged with driving under the influence resulting in great bodily injury.
Parillo was flown to Loma Linda Hospital for further treatment of his injuries.
