The Special Rodeo is a rodeo within a rodeo.
Scheduled for Thursday, June 16 at 6 p.m., in the middle of the California High School Rodeo Association’s state finals week at the Tri-County Fairgrounds, the Special Rodeo focuses on giving cowboys and cowgirls with special needs a chance to compete in modified rodeo events.
The CHSRA’s Special Rodeo allows high school rodeo athletes to work one on one with children in a rodeo where all contestants become champions.
Each contestant will go home with some new cowboy gear, like a hat, bandana and genuine back number. The children and their families will also take home memories they will never forget.
The Special Rodeo Program has grown over the last 10 years through the sponsorship of the Cargill Care Foundation.
This year’s Special Rodeo will start one hour before the main rodeo performance at the fairgrounds.
All special needs kids who would like to participate should come early on June 16 to the Mike Boothe Memorial Arena at the fairgrounds at 5:30 p.m. with a parent or guardian to fill out and sign all necessary entry forms and waivers.
