Memorial services to be held at a later date for 38-year Bishop and Mammoth Lakes resident Darlene Minnie Benson (Lamfers).
From Belmond, IA, Darlene was born Sept. 5, 1947 and passed away on May 17, 2011 at Bishop Care Center after a battle with cancer. She was 63.
Darlene married Douglas Arthur Benson Sept. 22, 1966 and moved to California.   Children Michelle and Michael were born in Lancaster. They moved to Mammoth Lakes in the early 1970’s where Darlene worked at The 1849 Condominiums for more than 35 years. She moved to Bishop because she loved her flowers and garden more than the snow.
She was preceded in death by her mother and father, Kasper and Grace (Harms) Lamfers; brothers, Jerry and Larry Lamfers; ex-husband, Douglas Arthur Benson of Gardnerville, Nev.; and best friend and sister-in-law, Judy Winard (Benson).
Darlene is survived by two children, Michael Douglas Benson of Sparks, Nev. amd Michelle Ann Benson of Bishop;  daughter-in-law, Luisa Benson; grandchildren, Alicia Apodaca of Bishop,  Brenda Martinez,  Jahaira Mendoza and Judith Benson, all of Sparks; sister, Linda Hamilton of Mason City, IA; brother, Kenneth Lamfers of Kanawha, IA; and cousins, nieces and nephews living in Iowa, Texas, Arizona, California and Oregon.
