Born April 20, 1925, to Harold and Jenny Wyckoff of Ovid, N.Y., Norma died May 2, 2011.
Before moving to California in 1950, she attended Brockport University. Norma married Grant Mull of Tujunga in November of 1951. In 1952 they moved to the Owens Valley, eventually settling in Independence. Three sons were born to them: Norman Grant Mull, David Harold Mull and Douglas Wyckoff Mull.
In 1979 Grant, Norma, Norman and a friend were involved in an airplane accident in Independence. Grant was severely injured in the accident and the next year of Norma’s life was spent at Loma Linda Hospital caring for Grant. Grant died a year later at the age of 54 from injuries received in the crash.
In 1981 Norma married Richard Swingler, a science teacher, and moved to Malibu for nearly 10 years before returning to Bishop and her beloved Owens Valley. Norma again took on the role of caregiver helping Richard with his battle with cancer. Richard died in 1993.
In 2004 Norma married John Wilson, a photography teacher at Cerro Coso Community College. They spent the following years conducting photography workshops, traveling with their dog and cat in their fifth wheel trailer and enjoying their home on Bishop Creek.
Norma developed breast cancer in 2001. She was able to maintain her normal lifestyle until the middle of 2010 when the cancer metastasized to her bones.
Norma and John attended the Methodist Church in Bishop.
“For those that knew Norma you know this is a celebration not a time of mourning,” the family said.
