Harriett Alice Steele
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 21 at the Big Pine Cemetery for Harriett Alice Steele, followed by a celebration of life at the home of Bob and Margie Steele on Flower Alley in Big Pine.
Born May 13, 1933 to Harold and Ruby Thomas in Silverton, Colo., Harriett died Nov. 24, 2010.
Harry, Ruby and Harriett moved to Bishop in 1947, where Harriett attended Bishop Union High School. She married Stanley Guseman in 1950. She had two sons, Stanley, “Stan Steele” and Robert, “Bob Steele.”
Later she married Carl Steele and they had a son, Mark “Bucky” Steele.
Harriett worked as a waitress for many years in the Bishop area and in later years she worked for Northern Inyo Hospital in the intensive care unit. She loved the Owens Valley and enjoyed being an artist. She also loved to cook and loved her family dearly.
“Mom will be greatly missed, she so loved her family and she was the best cook ever,” the family said. “We love and miss you mom.”
Harriett is survived by her three sons and their families, Stan, Bob and Margie Steele and Buck and Annie; grandsons, Jessie, Kenny and Mark; granddaughters, Gina, Stephanie and Sandra; great-grandchildren, Chad, Jason and Emma Reeves; and many more great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Harriett’s name may be made to the Big Pine Irrigation and Improvement Association.
